Asteroid Outpost is Dead

It saddens me to declare that Asteroid Outpost is over. I knew it was a very ambitious project when I started back in 2009, but at the time, I needed an interesting challenge. Along the way, I rose the bar again and again. I set my bar too high. Asteroid Outpost is in a playable state, and I will be releasing not only an executable, but I will be reopening the source. It has been an wonderful journey with lots of ups and downs, but it’s time to move on. I have never experienced an emotional roller-coaster quite like it. In time, I will write up a postmortem, but for now I just want to write something short.

It was a great project! This happens to a lot of projects, while it’s a bummer for those waiting for the game, it’s great for the developer to be released from something they’ve realized is a dead end. Hopefully we’ll see something cool in the future, using the knowledge you’ve gained from AO. Good luck on your next project!

I would love to take a look how you implemented the input routing logic between the C# game code and Awesomium, since this is something I still have some problems with my own XNA game project. I have a sneaking suspicion that I’m currently doing it in a way too complex manner. Another thing that could be very useful for me is the particle engine integration stuff that I will need to take a look into soon as well.
